The 5th grade students will be taking our spring round of NWEA Maps tests over the next few weeks. These tests will take place on Monday afternoons from 1-2 p.m. The students will take the reading test tomorrow afternoon. These tests serve as one measure of student growth and progress. I’ve been encouraging the students to work carefully and do their best to accurately show all they’ve learned throughout the year.
We’re headed to Frederick Meijer Gardens for a volunteer afternoon on Wednesday. We’ll eat lunch early that day; students will not be able to order hot lunch that day. There are still spots open to parents who want to help us that afternoon. If you’re interested, please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4aaead2ea6f49-frederik8
Students should dress for the weather and be prepared to spend the afternoon outdoors. In the case of severe inclement weather, we’d reschedule our volunteer afternoon for another week.
In science, the students are looking at the digestive system. In Bible, they’re continuing learning lessons from the Sermon on the Mount. In social studies, the students will be taking a deeper dive to examine different battles from the Revolutionary War. In literacy, the students will have the last two book club discussions with their current books this week (Tuesday and Friday). Additionally, the have a DLR quiz on Friday.
Fifth graders at Grand Rapids Christian Schools learn about the reproductive system. Your child will be coming home with an envelope on Monday, May 13 that contains a book, some parent materials, and a study guide. The books and study guides are meant to be completed with a parent. Books and study guides will need to be returned to school by Wednesday, May 22. I wanted to make sure that you were aware it would be coming home in the near future. Please reach out to me if you have any questions.
