Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your loved ones. And, what a surprise to have snow again! We are certainly blessed to live in Michigan and experience the wonder of the seasons along with the beauty of winter. As we head into our first full week of advent, we think about preparing our hearts and minds for the coming of our savior. The Prophecy candle urges us to listen to the message. We are working on Isaiah 9:6 as the memory work for December.
Porque nos ha nacido un niño,
se nos ha concedido un hijo;
la soberanía reposará sobre sus hombros,
y se le darán estos nombres:
Consejero admirable, Dios fuerte,
Padre eterno, Príncipe de paz.
Christmas Scholastic Orders: Students will go home with Scholastic catalogues today! Orders will be due on Thursday (December 5), so that they can arrive to school before Christmas break. Books make great Christmas presents, and when you order using our class code, QB6P9, I get points to spend on great resources for our classroom.
Homework: Homework 10 will be due on Friday. The homework includes 20 minutes of working on an IXL skill they need to practice (they will know which skill based on the test they just took!), practicing the Bible memory, and studying the states and special features for week 2 of the United States Challenge. The homework password this week is World Renew.
Math Test: Students took their division test right before the break. Today, they reflected on their test, correcting simple errors and identifying goals that they need to continue practicing. This test will be sent home. Please take a few minutes to chat with your child about the goals they mastered during the unit, goals they’re still working on, and how they’ll meet those goals. Sign the bottom of the gold reflection form and return the test to school with your child. Thank you for partnering with me in this way!
4th Grade Christmas Project – Last week, Carol Bremmer Bennet, head of World Renew, came to speak to our 4th graders. We are going to have our 4th graders collect/raise money to support causes sponsored by World Renew! This is an opportunity for our students to do a little work around the house or for neighbors and extended family to earn money to donate to this cause. Here are the various projects that we can choose to fund: (We will decide as a class which project once we have collected the money.) Goats and Ducks $155, Family size Water Filter $90, Herd! $360, Baby Kit $100, and a Beehive $35.
Christmas Program: The Christmas program will be held at the Center for Arts and Worship (CAW) at Grand Rapids Christian High School on Monday, December 16 at 7 pm. Please have your child arrive at the Center for Arts and Worship at Grand Rapids Christian High School at 6:30, with the performance beginning at 7 pm. 4th grade will meet in the choir room; 3rd grade will meet in the band room. Students should dress in their holiday best!
Rehearsal for the Christmas Program is on Monday, December 16 during the school day. Please, if at all possible, avoid scheduling any appointments for your 3rd & 4th-grade children 9:00 am — 11:00 am that day.
