Peek at the week: March 29

Devotions and PrayerEASTER FOCUS: This week, we’ll continue adding items to our Resurrection Eggs. These will come home on Thursday. It will be great if you share them together as a family on Easter sunday!!

BIBLE – This week we will be reading stories that help us understand Holy week: the last week of Jesus’ life. 

Patterns of Power (Grammar) – Our focus this week is on past, present and future tense of verbs. We’ll be learning from the book Thunder Cake by Patricia Polocco.

Writing Workshop -We continue writing opinions.  Our focus this week is on making comparisons, writing conclusions, and how to include suggestions for the reader.

Math – We will finish Chapter 5 on place value and will take the chapter assessment this week. 

Phonics – This week we’ll continue to decode multisyllable words.

Reading Workshop– This week we’ll be working on the comprehension skill of inferring. This is using clues from the text to figure out what is happening even when it is not directly stated. We’ll be reading poetry and to practice this skill. 

Social Studies/Science – We will finish up our unit “How Do We Learn about Places?” This week we focus on human impact on the environment around us as well as how we adapt to our environment. 

Book in a Bag- We will not be sending home new book-in-a-bags this week.

Kakuma READ-A-THON-The READ-A-THON is coming to an end this week.  We did it!  We read as many minutes as we could to help raise money for books and supplies for the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya.  Please be sure to submit all final donations online by April 1Opens in a new window.

Lost and Found: Please CLICK HERE to view photos of lost and found items. If you see something that belongs to your child, please email Laura at lszotko@grcs.org and the item will be sent home with your child. Feel free to call the office at 616.574.6500 to ask about missing items.

  • Wednesday, March 31: Shades day: students are invited to wear hats and sunglasses to school
  • April 2 (Friday) – April 11: Spring Break
  • April 30 – Zoo field trip – stay tuned for more details
  • May 26 – End of year Camp Roger Field Trip – stay tuned for more details
